"The world’s sustainable development will depend on the prudent application of science, technology, and innovations, and women's participation in these will be critical locally, nationally and internationally," said the Executive Committee. "Therefore, the OWSD Uganda National Chapter has been formed with the primary goal of enabling women in Uganda to access, participate in, and take the lead in contemporary science, technology, and innovation, contributing locally, nationally, and internationally to essential developments."
Among the National Chapter's first planned activities are facilitating trainings in digital literacy to enhance work capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic, organizing scientific workshops and conferences for women scientists in Uganda, and developing advocacy programmes to increase awareness among political, NGO, professional and civic circles of the value of gender equity and of women's participation in science and technology.
At the time of establishment, OWSD had 81 members in the Uganda National Chapter. Women scientists from or living in Uganda who are not already members of OWSD can become members here. Members who are interested in joining the National Chapter are invited to contact owsduganda [at] gmail.com.
