CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF OUR TECH GIRLS BOOT CAMP PROGRAM
In honor of International Women's Day, our just-concluded TechGirls Boot Camp program was an exhilarating journey of empowerment and innovation, We began by selecting ten schools in the Choba Community:
1. Rockbase International School
2. Olobo Premier College
3. University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) Group of Schools
4. University Demonstration Secondary School (UDSS)
5. Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School
6. First Pillar College
7. Royal Girls Academy
8. Community Secondary School Ogbogoro
9. Community Secondary School Rumuapara
10. Chucks Comprehensive College
Though we eagerly anticipated the participation of all ten schools, only seven schools responded and actively engaged in this transformative experience:
1. Rockbase International School
2. University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) Group of Schools
3. University Demonstration Secondary School (UDSS)
4. Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School
5. Community Secondary School Ogbogoro
6. Community Secondary School Rumuapara
7. Chucks Comprehensive College
Three exceptional students from each of these schools were chosen to dive into the world of STEM, embarking on a three-week intensive training journey. Through hands-on training in website design using a code-free platform (webflow), AI model development for predictions, robotics, and presentation skills, these budding STEM enthusiasts honed their skills and unleashed their potential. At the program's culmination, University Demonstration Secondary School (UDSS) emerged triumphant, seizing the first position by not only completing their project with excellence but also publishing their very own website, the University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) Group of Schools secured a well-deserved second place, while Community Secondary School Ogbogoro claimed the third spot.
A heartfelt thank you to TotalEnergies for their generous donation of ten (10) laptops, awarded to the top three schools, with an additional laptop bestowed upon a standout presenter from Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School. Cash prizes and stylish gadget bags stocked with special mathematical sets and periodic tables were also presented to all participants, encouraging their continued passion for STEM.
We appreciate all our sponsors and volunteers, the TechGirls BootCamp committee members, Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) members, and everyone who contributed to the success of this event: your support has ignited a spark that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts and minds of these future leaders in STEM. In line with the UN's theme for 2024, 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress', and the campaign theme, 'Inspire Inclusion', we have initiated progress. Here's to a future where every girl's potential knows no bounds.
As we celebrate International Women's Day, let's continue to inspire inclusion and accelerate progress.
