Global Women Breakfast IUPAC 2020: Bonding to create future leaders

OWSD Pakistan NC team attended Global Women Breakfast IUPAC 2020 (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) held at Golden Jubilee Hall of International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), February 12, 2020. The theme for GWB2020 was “Bonding to create future leaders” with a focus on leadership development. The purpose of GWB2020 is to establish a network where women in sciences can connect with each other in a meaningful way to support their professional aspirations. More than 300 women scientist attended the event.
The female scientist at different stages of their careers gathered to celebrate and shared their views. The panellists were Prof. Dr. Bina Siddiqui (President, OWSD Pakistan NC), Dr. Shahnaz Perven, (Director, Planning & Development, PCSIR Laboratories Complex) and the faculty members of ICCBS.
Prof. Dr Bina S. Siddique mentioned that Pakistani women scientist have great leadership qualities and their abilities have been recognized both at national and international forums. Dr. Bina introduced OWSD Pakistan Chapter to fellow scientist and young scholars “OWSD provides research training and networking opportunities for women scientists throughout the developing world at different stages in their careers”, she said. She also motivated the young fellows and said that “its time for the women in Pakistan to join hands and work for the development and advancement of science in Pakistan.”
Prof. Khalid M. Khan also attended the event and highlighted the importance of the international event. The purpose of the event is to not only strengthen women in science and technology but also in the field of chemistry, he said.
Dr. Hina Siddique, organizer of the “GWB2020” told the participants, “Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary strongly supports the idea of women empowerment, and strive to produce an environment that is conducive to women scholars at the international centre.”
