Biological Systems and Organisms
My research is focused on iron and manganese metabolism in bacteria from a physiological and biotechnological perspective. I am particularly interested in bioprospection of Antarctic environments for the search of enzymes/bacteria capable of oxidizing manganese and tolerate different metals. My research project for the next two years is to develop a suitable vector-host system for the construction of functional metagenomic libraries using psychrophilic bacteria.
